About

About the Club

The Cairns Rowing Club commenced its activities in 1995 in a number of makeshift facilities and established the current Rowing Club on Fearnley Street in Portsmith in 2001. During its existence, the club has continually strived to deliver a quality service to its members and has aimed to provide its members with the greatest opportunities to progress their capabilities in the sport.

We cater for members across all age ranges and competitive levels. While some members are quite social, rowing only once or twice a week, others are very competitive and take part in regattas all over the country.

Our coverage

We are part of the North Queensland Regatta circuit and participate in regional regattas that are held at Cairns, Innisfail, Townsville, Riverway and Mackay. We then also compete on the broader competitive circuit that takes in State Masters Championships, National Master Championship, and the World Masters Championships.

We provide all boats and equipment required by members, so you don’t need any equipment of your own to get started or to get back into the sport if you have been away for a while. We also provide equipment to cover all boat types for sweep and scull rowing and use a booking system to ensure that all boats are accessible to all members. We run a number of training and development programs throughout the year to help members develop their skill sets and also run safety programs to assist with capsize recovery to ensure everyone stays safe

Our aim

The aim of the Club is ‘To Encourage and Foster Rowing in the Cairns Region’.

The Club services the Cairns City and surrounding regions and through its associations with other regional rowing clubs of Mackay, Townsville JCU, Riverway, Innisfail and the Tablelands is instrumental in delivering a diverse regional rowing program to the Far North Queensland. Club participation also extends beyond regional boundaries with club members competing at State, National and International competitions.

Governance

The Club is managed by an elected Committee that meets on a monthly basis to formulate development strategies and conduct the day-to-day running of the Club's affairs.
